Apparently I have a one gallon commute to work. I recently moved into a new house, and according to Google Maps, my house in Waltham is about 10 miles from my office in downtown Boston. With gas prices the way they are, I am surprised that Realtors do not advertise this fact in their listings. If I were looking at homes in the Metro West, and saw that some of the towns are within 10-12 miles of downtown, that would be a selling point. Sure, not a determining factor, but a swing vote maybe.

What is a One Gallon Drive?

For the purposes of this site, I am defining a one gallon drive as any as two points that are within 12.5 miles driving distance from each other, or 25.0 miles round trip.  Twenty five miles per gallon is about the average miles per gallon of the average car, so I am using that as a simple basis.  I know some of you have hybrids that are getting you 40 miles + to the gallon, but I using you to offset the SUV drivers – though I know you hate that .   I want to use this site to celebrate destinations YOU enjoy that are within a One Gallon Drive from where you live.  Go ahead, post away.  But, I do ask that you go to Google Maps, Map Quest, or some other site to verify that your two points are, in fact, a One Gallon Drive.  Have fun with this…
